I prescribe medicines, and believe that they can be very helpful. However, I think it is rare that pills alone create lasting change, in the way that a treatment involving psychotherapy can. If we chose to work together, I'll encourage you to pursue regularly scheduled psychotherapy, either with me or another therapist.
Treatment with me would likely involve exploring things from many different angles. These include:
interpersonal (how do your ways of interacting with people create or reduce tension?)
lifestyle (sleep, exercise, job, school)
background and upbringing (what aspects of your past are contributing to how you feel?)
psychopharmacologic (should we consider medicines?)
behaviors (are substances causing more problems than they're solving?)
