Psychotherapy - This is an appropriate treatment for examing in-depth issues that you want to change. Such issues include anxiety, sadness, dissatisfaction in relationships or work, conflicts with others, or behaviors that you just can't get a hold of. Each person's treatment is individual, but, typically, a course of psychotherapy involves weekly 50-minute appointments for several months or more.
Psychiatric Medication - After discussing options, we may agree that taking psychiatric medication would be a useful addition to your treatment. There is a wide range of medications currently available for treating depression, anxiety, mood swings, compulsions, and addictive behaviors. Although I sometimes do prescribe medication as the primary treatment, I usually recommend it as a tool to help clients make other changes, in their personal or professional lives, in their behaviors or habits.
